Last week I spent 3 days in Savannah, Georgia, a Southern coastal delight framed by antebellum architecture and Spanish moss (which is neither Spanish nor moss). I felt enchanted by its charm and I got to taste several Southern classics like barbecue, seafood boil and an ice cream emblem of the city.
As a change, I’ll leave you with a photo-journal of my experience hoping that these images manage to captivate you as well.

Taking a stroll
The city takes you from the river to numerous green squares, where it’s favolous to people-watch while taking a breath from the humit heat of the summer.
Fun fact: you can find oyster shells in the pavement of some streets as the over abundance of the animal in the late 19th century meant they had to do something with the rests!
Leopold’s ice cream
This is said to be the best ice-cream shop in the city and although I cannot attest it as we didn’t have time to compare with others, it was creamy and certaintly filling. I went with custard lemon and Georgia’s national fruit: peach.
A seafood boil
Our local friends took us to their favorite spot to try a seafood boil. It was so tasteful and full of spices I could eat this once a week! It featured: clams, mussels, crayfish, crab, potatoes and corn.
North Beach, Tybee Island
Sunday morning was spent by the beach. We drove through wetlands and crossed a bridge to get to Tybee island. I had swum in the Atlantic from the other end, in the Canary islands, but these waters were much, much warmer!
Georgian Barbecue
And after the beach, came the bbq! We went for all the classics: chichen, brisquet, pulled pork, wings, fried okra, fried pickles, sweet potato fries, green beans, collard greens… It was a very enjoyable feast. Though the sauces were good, I’m not sure if that good.
Stunning photos. The Spanish moss is my favorite element.
Savannah is such a gorgeous city! Leopold's is definitely a favorite for ice cream (and peach sounds perfect!).
